Abstract


This research is aimed at finding out the knowledge level of the state SMP teachers toward the conceptof classroom-based assessment. The sample respondents were 297 English teachers taken from 11 citieswithin Riau Province. The procedure of the research was administered by sending a set ofquestionnaires containing statements on knowledge related to the concept of classroom-basedassessment. Since the activ ities of this research was in relatipon to the concept of evaluation, theconcept known as Context, Input, Process and Product (CIPP) created by Stufflebeam et.al (1971) wasusead. Data analysis was calculated in descriptive method using SPSS Version 11.5, that is, bydescribing the percentage, min score as well as the standard deviation. Data calculation described thatthe lowest min score was 3.2949 with the standard deviation 0.62731; while the highest one was 3.5539with the standard deviation 0.52660. So, the interval of the min score was between 3.2949 and 3.5539.Therefore, it could be concluded that the knowledge level of the English teachers of state SMPs in RiauProvince toward the concept of classroom-based assessment was in ‘mediocre’ level, particularly, onthe aspects of introduction, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation.
