A STUDY ON WRITING SUMMARY ABILITY AFTER WATCHING THE ENGLISH MOVIES BY THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS OF ENGLISH STUDY PROGRAM RIAU UNIVERSITY PEKANBARU

Abstract

This descriptive research is aimed at describing the ability of the second students of English study program after watching some short English movies. In collecting the data, this research was conducted in two steps. Firstthe students watched three short English movies, they are Pigeon Impossible,Alma, and Children of Adam. The length of each movie is about 10 minutes.Second after watching the three movies, they were asked to write summary essay based on what they had been watched. The result of the research showsthat the first movie the students got 61.05 score in average or at average togood level. For the second movie, the average score was 68.41 or at averageto good level while for the last movie, the students’ average score was 56.14or at poor to average level. Moreover, the average score of the students forthe whole movies was 61.86 or it got average to good level.
