Abstract

Last decade show increased of prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) in line with increasing number of centralobesity population, especially in young ages. The aim of this research study was to determine the prevalence andcharacteristic of MS. A cross sectional study was conducted on 892 participants from June to July 2008.The clinicalparameters analyzed were waist circumference, age, sex , body height and weight, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose,HDL-Cholesterol and triglyceride level. 88 (9.9%) subjects fulfilled MS criteria with characteristic : 49 patients weremen (55.7%), mostly found in 30-39 years group. Hypertension in 34 subjects (38.6%), triglyceride level > 150 mg/dlin 59 subjects (67.1%), HDL-cholesterol level in men 41 subjects (46.6 %) while in women 21 subjects (23.9%), 48subjects (54.5%) had fasting blood glucose level > 100 mg/dl. Prevalence MS was 9.9% with increasing number ofcentral obesity, mostly found in fourth decade with higher proportion in men.
