DIPLOMASI INDONESIA TERKAIT PEMBERANTASAN DRUGS TRAFFICKING

Abstract


One of the crucial transnational crime in Southeast Asia nowadays is drugs trafficking.
In facing this condition Indonesian government takes an action through regional diplomacy
such as ASEAN Senior Officials on Drug Matters (ASOD). This forum is an international
organization under the auspices of ASEAN working on countering illegal drugs trafficking. This
research aims to identify and analyze the diplomatic efforts and obstacles of Indonesian
government through international organizations such as ASOD related to combating drugs
trafficking. This research used a qualitative approach and the primary data were collected
through interviews with the informants from institutions Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the
National Narcotics Agency. The results of this research explain the diplomatic efforts of Indonesia
in ASOD of sharing information and negotiation. And the obstacles that hampering the
implementation of Indonesia’s diplomacy in ASOD caused of several aspects. In addition to the
existing obstacles, ASOD as a platform of diplomacy in regional forum is not run effectively to
counter narcotics problem in Indonesia due to ASOD is only a forum for sharing information.
