Abstract


  Pekanbaru city experienced the dynamics of development quite rapidly five years lately.
This is characterized by increasing population and trade growth. This condition has a negative
impact, namely the increasing number of garbage piles every day. This study aims to analyze
environmental-based waste management in Pekanbaru City. The method used is survey, literature
study, and interviews by taking samples 6 of 12 districts in Pekanbaru City. The reason for choosing
these six sub-districts is because it has a large area, high population density, and high volume of
garbage heap. The results showed that waste management in terms of management functions
ranging from planning, organizing, mobilization or mobilization to the supervision in the
implementation of less than optimal. It can be seen from the responses of 96 respondents where as
many as 55 respondents (57.29%) say not optimal, 26 respondents (27.08%) say less than optimal,
and only 15 people (15.63%) who said it was good . The handling of garbage is also not yet
coordinated and well arranged between existing stakeholders
