Abstract


This research aimed to describe and to investigate whether IEPC method can increase theability of English Study Program students of FKIP UR Pekanbaru in reading ability. The participants were25 students of the second semester S1 Program, in 2009-2010 academic year. The data collectiontechniques consisted of observation, field note, interview, and tests. The research findings can be brieflyexplained as follows. First, the students’ reading ability could be improved by using IEPC method.Before the research was done, the average score of the students reading ability was only 58,89. After theresearch done for cycle 1, it improved to 60.74. Cycle 2, it improved to 63.92. Cycle 3, it increased up to67.89. At post test it became 71.59. Second, the students’ interest and motivation also increased. Thesecan be seen from the increasing of students’ awareness in comprehending the text. IEPC method canimprove students’ reading ability. Third, in teaching learning process, students can work together, discuss,share information, get mutual understanding, as well as give mutual support to get the objectives. Forth,the lecturer was able to apply IEPC method to make the teaching process effective.
